A Trip to Fairplay Colorado
South Park City...a reconstructed mining town stands in tribute to that time of
the mining era, and to the men and women who lived it. Fairplay's
"ghost-town" recalls for the visitor, the romance of a by-gone era.
As you look up South Park's Main Street, the mountains you see
are the peaks of the Mosquito range: Sheep, Horseshoe, which has been
hollowed out by a glacier, Peerless, Sheridan, Sherman, and Pennsylvania.
They contain the rich mineral deposits which led to the gold boom of the
1860's. South Park City is high on a bluff overlooking the Platte River,
site of early placer mining and dredging for
gold.
Nanci & Ashley on the Porter Mogul #6, a narrow gauge train built in
1914. This locomotive was the basic type used by the Denver, South Park
and Pacific railroads which serviced South Park.
This red caboose was a self-contained home and office for
railroad personnel. If you look real close you can see its
occupants. Hey you--that's Nanci & Ashley!
A doll herself, Ashley, poses before a treasured exhibit of dolls of the
Victorian era...
...and
an authentic dollhouse.
Hmmm...this one is pretty, and another, and another
